Waiting on Wednesday: Talon

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.

 I am waiting on:

Talon (Talon, #1)
Title:Talon
Author: Julie Kagawa
Series: Talon #1
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: October 28, 2014
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
Why am I waiting?
Dragons written by Julie Kagawa,  I have been wanting to read this one since I first heard about it. I am glad that I only have a little bit longer before I can enjoy this one. I always loved the idea of shape-shifting dragons and I know that Julie Kagawa is going to work her magic.

What are you waiting on?

Audiobook Review: Iron Knight

About the Book
Title: Iron Knight
Author: Julie Kagawa
Series: The Iron Fey #4
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: January 1, 2011
Genres: Young Adult, Paranormal
My name - my True Name - is Ashallayn’ darkmyr Tallyn. I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her. My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl…
To cold faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.
Then Meghan Chase - a half human, half fey slip of a girl - smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.
With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end - a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan's side.
To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. And along the way Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

My Review of Iron Knight
I finally finished Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa, bringing an end to the Iron Fey series. Iron Knight was bittersweet for me, even though I loved it. I did not want the series to end, and that is probably why I put off finishing it for so long. The Iron Knight is completely different type of story from previous books. For one, Prince Ash is the viewpoint used to tell this story versus Meghan Chase. I actually loved discovering more about Ash and his past.

I chose to listen to the audiobook while doing monotonous things like painting my bathroom, which means I have to enjoy the marvelous storytelling abilities of MacLeod Andrews. I do have to say I loved all his voices for the characters. It defiantly made me enjoy the story more, and made everyday tasks go by much faster.

I have been divided between Team Puck and Team Ash from the very beginning. I have continually flip-flopped between the two. I believe Iron Knight has finally settled me on Team Ash, but I will always love Puck. His antics always have me laughing. I love Ash and Puck’s friendship even when they are at each other throats at times, because you can see how much they truly care for each other in Iron Knight.

The Iron Knight is a complete conclusion to the Iron Fey series, which is done beautifully. While the door on this series has come to a close, Julie Kagawa has opened a window with her new series about Ethan Chase. I can only hope that a few familiar faces will make their appearance in the new series.

Review: Iron Queen (The Iron Fey #3) by Julie Kagawa

Title: Iron Queen

Series: The Iron Fey #3

Paperback: 368 pages
Publisher: Harlequin
Publication Date: January 25, 2011

Buy Iron Queen

My name is Meghan Chase.
I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back.

My Review

The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa is the third book in the Iron Fey series. The beginning of this one takes place after Ash and Meghan leave the world of fey behind. Meghan knows she cannot just leave the world of fey behind, with the threat of the Iron Fey growing. Meghan know she is the only one who stands the chance going up against the Iron King, because Iron is toxic to any full fey. Meghan is only half-fey, but that half comes from the Summer King, Lord Oberon. At the end of the last book, The Iron Daughter, Ash had refused to denounce his love for Meghan Chase, and as a result, both Ash and Meghan were banished.

While Meghan enjoyed the feeling of being free to do what she wants, and spend her time with Ash, Meghan is requested to battle the Iron King by both the Seelie and Unseelie Court. Meghan, Ash, and Puck travel into the land of the Iron Fey to try to stop the spread of the Iron Kingdom and save the NeverNever. The Iron Queen takes readers on an epic, emotional ride.

I have to say that with every Iron Fey novel, Julie Kagawa surprises me! I have to say the Iron Queen was far more emotional, in my opinion, that the other previous installments. I think this maybe the reason I loved The Iron Queen more than I love the previous installments. I love Meghan’s growth in this novel, and I love the growth of her relationship with Ash. Puck and Grimalkin remain my favorite characters; I really do not think that will ever change. I have a soft spot for sarcastic, secretly sensitive guys.

For those who have not picked up the Iron King, please do yourself a favor and do it. There is something for everyone in this series. I especially love stories involving the world of the fey, because I grew up being told bedtimes stories about the fairy world by my Grandmother. So anyone who grew up on these stories, this series is a must read!

Review: The Iron Daughter ( The Iron Fey #2) by Julie Kagawa

Title: The Iron Daughter
Author: Julie Kagawa
Series: The Iron Fey #2

Paperback: 304 pages
Publisher: Harlequin
Publication Date: August 1, 2010

BUY THE IRON DAUGHTER

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.(copied from Goodreads)

 My Review

The Iron Daughter is the second book in the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. This one picks up pretty much from the end of the Iron King. Anything missed is detailed in the first few pages. Meghan lives up to her contract with the Winter Prince, Ash, and travels to the Unseelie Court. While there Meghan discovers the she cannot access her Summer Glamor anymore, leaving her without any powers. This is not a comforting, while staying in the court of her father, King Oberon, sworn enemies. To make matters even worse, if that is possible, Ash wants nothing to do with her.

In the Iron Daughter, Meghan tries to warn Queen Mab of the dangers of the Iron Fey, but Queen Mab refuses to believe her. Since this is the Iron Fey series, one can guess that Iron Fey are going to play a part in the story. I just do not want to spoil anything for anyone. After leaving Puck in the Iron King, I was pleased to see my favorite trickster back again. Without Puck, there would be a lack of humor through the book. Grimalkin is also a big part of the journey through the novel. Of course, the whole novel there is the issue of Meghan, and her feelings for both Ash and Puck.

I really like The Iron Daughter for so many reasons. My favorite part has to be Puck, I really love his humor, and his antics. He makes sure the novel is never to dreary at any given point. I, of course, love me some Ash! I mean come on who doesn’t love that dreamy Winter Prince! I have to say I really love Meghan progression in the book, it seems like she could stand a bit more on her own.

I really like where the story is headed, and I already finished the Iron Queen! I will have a review up this weekend, maybe depending on Christmas festivities. I loved the Iron King, I love the Iron Daughter even more! Seriously, I love the way the story is headed into the Iron Queen. This is a must read for any fan of Iron King, and anyone who likes fairytales! If you have not started the Iron Fey series yet, please do, I promise it is well worth the read!

Cover Love: The Immortal Rules

Title: The Immortal Rules
Author: Julie Kagawa
Expected Publication: April 24, 2012

You will kill. The only question is when.
In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.
Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.
Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.(copied from Goodreads)

I have to say that ever since hearing about this one, I am excited for this one. Earlier today the cover was revealed, and I knew I had to share it.

Review of Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart. (Copied from Goodreads)

My Review
Iron King is part of the Iron fey series that I have seen all over the place, and I knew it was a book series I had to read. The Iron King is about Megan Chase, a normal teenage girl with a not so perfect life. She only has her best friend Robbie to confide in. Megan is haunted by the events that happened on her sixth birthday, when her father disappeared without a trace. She does not know what happened or why her father just disappeared, and she is very unsettled by this fact. On her sixteenth birthday, things start to take a weird turn she is seeing things out of the corner of her eye. She sees a mysterious man on the way home, and does not understand the reason her friend, Robbie, becomes protective.

Events unfold and it is up Megan to enter the world of the fey to save someone she loves. She soon finds out her best friend, Robbie, is actually Robin Goodfellow or more commonly known as Puck. Puck helps guide her through the land of the fey, NeverNever. Along the way, she meets a few characters out of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I have to say I have never read A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but it did not affect the story at all. I do think if you read A Midsummer Night’s Dream, it would add a new level to the story of the Iron King. I bought a copy after reading the Iron King, so I could read it before I start The Iron Daughter.

As the story of Iron King continues, Megan meets Ash, Prince of the Winter Court. He is super dreamy, but he is Puck’s sworn enemy. The two boys agree to help Megan on her mission to save her loved one, even if they want to kill each other. Another character, Grimalkin is a talking disappearing cat that also accompanies Megan along the way. I just love him; his attitude is just perfect for him. I love Puck, the trickster, and I love Ash, the honorable warrior.

Iron King is like a combination of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Midsummer Night’s Dream all rolled into one. Grimalkin reminds me at times of the Cheshire Cat. Puck for reminds me at times of Peter Pan, and he is from the land of NeverNever, or NeverNever Land. Megan also reminds me a little bit of Wendy, but I am not sure why, maybe her innocence. This is all mixed with A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Iron King is just an amazing book, and very well written. I cannot wait to read the Iron Daughter, and continue the adventure of Megan, Puck, Ash, and of course Grimalkin. Julie Kagawa is a splendid storyteller.
