Author: Michelle I. Brooks
Series: The Bone Dressing #2
Publisher: Savage Enterprises
Publication Date: November 11, 2012

The time for best friends and midnight escapes to the cemetery Syd calls home is over.
As Syd faces the dangerous mysteries lurking in the shadowed depths of her past, she must sail from the shores of sanity through the rocky waters of the unknown on her journey to the sleeping bones of her next past-life. Caught on a roller coaster ride through mysterious cultures, rogue mercenary pirates, past loves and new-found abilities, Syd must find the strength to listen to her own heart. She must find a way to embrace her destiny, her future ... and her past.
Help continues to come through the unlikely team of Sarah and T.J., Syd’s personal time-challenged dynamic duo. Blipping on and off her radar at the worst times, they never seem to be front and center when she really needs them. And Beau ... when will she be able to function, to breathe, in his presence? What is her inescapable connection to him? And why can’t he admit his attraction to her?
Off on a race against time, against evil-incarnate, against her own fears and passions, Syd must turn to the strength within. To the strength of Bone Dressing. Bone Dressing: The Dreaming, the second in a series of seven books, will carry Syd and Beau further on their adventure that transcends life itself.

MY REVIEW
Bone Dressing: The Dreaming is another crazy but interesting installment in the Bone Dressing series. Bone Dressing was the very first review request I ever received and I could not be happier to be asked to continue the series. In the first book, Sydney experiences one of her past lives. In The Dreaming, Sydney travels to Australia to experience another past life in the hope of learning from her past self’s mistakes and gain the power and knowledge to defeat the creepy Mr. A

Sydney and Beau’s relationship is continuing to grow as their feelings continue to deepen. Sydney, who was scared of letting anyone in after losing her parents, has created a family with Beau, Sarah, and T.J. This new love and family allows Sydney to grow as a character and gives readers a different side of Sydney.

I will have to say that Mr. A is even more sadistic than he is the first time. A few scenes had me absolutely disgusted by his behavior. I also felt it is only fair to warn readers that there is sexual content in this book, one instance in peculiar that may be better suited for an older audience, so please keep that in mind.

Bone Dressing deals with past lives and reincarnation, something not usually taken on in book. That choice offers readers a difference when too many novels are becoming similar. I am interested to see where and what time Sydney is going to explore next.

Review: Bone Dressing by Michelle I. Brooks

Time is running out … the Dark that's been chasing Syd for many lifetimes has finally caught up with her …

Sydney Roberdeau lost her parents as a young girl. Waiting for her life to start and the freedom that will come with her eighteenth birthday, Syd spends much of her time haunting the local cemetery. It is there, stretched out among the dead, that she feels most alive, most at home. Until one rainy night when Beau, Sarah and T.J. crash her ghostly sanctuary, appearing out of nowhere, turning her already inside-out world one degree past upside down.

Syd must now revisit past lives, dressing in the bodies of her previous selves … bone dressing. Her only chance to outrun the evil breathing down her neck is to face her own worst nightmares and her strongest desires. But if she can’t stay out of trouble in this life, how can she possibly fix mistakes from past lives? And just how many lives has she lived, loved and lost? What is Syd exactly, and what will she risk for the life of a man she doesn’t remember, the man she spent a lifetime with, the man she loves? Everything … including her very own life?

Bone Dressing, the first in a series of seven books, will carry Syd and Beau on an adventure that transcends life itself. (copied for Goodreads)

MY REVIEW

As the start of Bone Dressing, you meet Syd a troubled but mostly normal teenage girl. When I say mostly normal, she likes to spend her nights hanging out in the local cemetery. It is sitting in the cemetery, that she meets Remy who Sydney starts calling Beau. The reason I love this is that it makes me think of Remy LeBeau or Gambit from the X-men. I know my geek is showing, but before I completely put that away. Here is what I pictured the entire time for Beau. Ok, geek shoved back down inside, and drool wiped off keyboard.

Along with Beau, Sydney meets T.J. and Sarah. I love Sarah; she is just an angelic little girl. The three of them are there to help Sydney realized that this is not the first life she has lived. In all her lives, something has gone wrong; a big bad evil was chasing her down. The key to finding out how to stop it is to revisit her past lives. In this book, Syd only visits one of her past lives, but with six other books, I expect to visit even more. Bone Dressing is just the beginning of Sydney’s story.

I just loved this book for so many reasons. The whole story is told through the eyes and mind of Sydney. I just love the sardonic snark of Sydney’s “voice.” I really grew to care about Syd, and it caused me to love this story even more. The best part about Bone Dressing is the 180-degree turn it takes about half way through the novel. I did not expect or see it coming at all. That makes me like the book even more; there was no indication at all. Reading is always more enjoyable, when it tell you a story you did not know you would hear.

I just love the whole past lives, and reincarnation aspect of Bone Dressing. It is an unusual subject is a refreshing read. I could not be more pleased and grateful that Michelle contacted me to review this book. I love the relationship between Beau and Sydney it is more realistic. They are fight and have arguments just like a normal relationship. Bone Dressing is just an interesting read that grows on you.
