Piracy SUCKS! and Giveaway

Image thanks to Larissa's Bookish Life

I have been reading posts through the day, after hearing about both Cydni Tefft, author of Between, and Angeline Kace, author of Descended by Blood, suffering from the evil doings of the dastardly book pirates. While that sounds like a great adventure novel, it is not anywhere close. These pirates are hurting authors by stealing their works. To top that off one of my fellow book bloggers, Jaime from Two Chicks On Books was also affected by these pirates. These evil pirates sold her reviews and used them to recommend the pirated copies of Cyndi's book. This is just despicable and disturbing to me as a fellow book blogger. I am upset about the circumstances, because both Cyndi and Angeline are wonderful, awesome people and I know this is frustrating for both of them.

The saddest part about this is both books cost $ 0.99!!! I cannot even buy something to drink at my local gas station for that cheap. If you cannot afford .99, then you cannot afford to have the internet connection you are using to steal the book.

This is not the first time piracy has been brought up and I know it will not be the last. As a person who has a passion for reading, and the effort it takes to write a novel. These novels sometimes take YEARS to write, and the joy of that accomplishment can be taken away in a few minutes. I believe it is my duty as a book blogger, and someone who admires both Cyndi and Angeline to spread to the word on Piracy. Just a little while back author Jennifer Armentrout posted about her book Half-Blood being pirated BEFORE it was even officially released. These pirates used an E-ARC to pirate her work. That means her publisher trusted them enough to send them an E-ARC. This is damaging to the publisher, agent, and author, but it  is also damaging to all the good reviewers out there. If it continues to happen, publishers will stop send out advanced copies to reviewers like book bloggers.

Other stories on piracy can be found here:

I was so angry about these event today that I have decided to host a huge giveaway against piracy. I am giving away FIVE Kindle editions of Between by Cyndi Tefft and FIVE Kindle editions of Descended by Blood by Angeline Kace. That means there are TEN winners!!
I know not everyone has a kindle, but with there are Kindle Apps for a lot of devices, and it is easy for me to gift a copy to the winners.

The Hanging Man's Ghost
by
Chandra Haun

The cracked sidewalk gave the young girl a crooked smile as she slowly headed up to her new house. Her shiny black dress shoes stumbled up the creaking old wooden stairs leading to the front porch. The old wooden door leading into the house caused her to shudder. Something just did not feel right.
The parents opened the front door with excitement. They did not seem to feel the sudden rush of freezing air. The small girl hugged her pink coat tighter to her body. Now inside the house, the little girl was overwhelmed with fear; it was fear of the unknown.
The girl dragged her feet as the mother lugged her up the stairs. With every step she took, her fear increased. When they reached the landing at the top of the stairs, the mother turned to a carved oak door to the right. As the mother opened the door, a sinister carved face stared down upon them.
The little girl looked inside and screamed at the top of her lungs.
Inside was a man in his early thirties, hanging from the ceiling by a noose, made from a white bed sheet. Nearby, on the floor laid a little boy about the age of eleven. There was blood splattered all over the room, and in the hanging man’s hand, a blood knife. The scene was truly horrific for a young girl’s eyes. The mother turned around to find out why she screamed, because she saw nothing. When the girl looked again, the room was empty, but the image was etched in her mind.
The first night in her new room was uneventful for the little girl. The second night, she awoke from a deep sleep with the shadow of a man standing over her, watching her. This happened more frequently on dark, stormy nights. The spirit seemed to draw extra energy from the storms.
It was not until one particularly stormy night, the little girl overwhelmed by fear woke up to find the strange shadow as usual. This time something was off. That is when the cloud covering the moon moved. Thus, the moonlight reflected off a metal object in the shadows hand. The little girl screamed in horror.
The parents ran into the room and turned the lights on. The little girl was completely alone. There was no trace of the mysterious shadow except the bloody knife now stuck in the floor next to the little girl’s bed. The parents left that very night with the girl, leaving the shadow to wait for a new family to find its next victim.

Q.If you could have characters from a particular book meet and form an epic storyline with characters from a particular TV series, which would you choose and why?

Tough question, I would have to say I would like the characters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer including Angel to cross paths with the characters from the Vampire Diaries books. It would be an interesting dynamic! Also, Buffy would probably end up falling in love with Damon. Imagine that romance, It would make for an excellent show or book that is for sure. All the hot vampires in the same place!

An some extra Alaric eye candy for my friend Andrea over at The Bookish Babes

Alaric may not be a vampire, but he is defiantly in the hot category

Review: Bone Dressing by Michelle I. Brooks

Time is running out … the Dark that's been chasing Syd for many lifetimes has finally caught up with her …

Sydney Roberdeau lost her parents as a young girl. Waiting for her life to start and the freedom that will come with her eighteenth birthday, Syd spends much of her time haunting the local cemetery. It is there, stretched out among the dead, that she feels most alive, most at home. Until one rainy night when Beau, Sarah and T.J. crash her ghostly sanctuary, appearing out of nowhere, turning her already inside-out world one degree past upside down.

Syd must now revisit past lives, dressing in the bodies of her previous selves … bone dressing. Her only chance to outrun the evil breathing down her neck is to face her own worst nightmares and her strongest desires. But if she can’t stay out of trouble in this life, how can she possibly fix mistakes from past lives? And just how many lives has she lived, loved and lost? What is Syd exactly, and what will she risk for the life of a man she doesn’t remember, the man she spent a lifetime with, the man she loves? Everything … including her very own life?

Bone Dressing, the first in a series of seven books, will carry Syd and Beau on an adventure that transcends life itself. (copied for Goodreads)

MY REVIEW

As the start of Bone Dressing, you meet Syd a troubled but mostly normal teenage girl. When I say mostly normal, she likes to spend her nights hanging out in the local cemetery. It is sitting in the cemetery, that she meets Remy who Sydney starts calling Beau. The reason I love this is that it makes me think of Remy LeBeau or Gambit from the X-men. I know my geek is showing, but before I completely put that away. Here is what I pictured the entire time for Beau. Ok, geek shoved back down inside, and drool wiped off keyboard.

Along with Beau, Sydney meets T.J. and Sarah. I love Sarah; she is just an angelic little girl. The three of them are there to help Sydney realized that this is not the first life she has lived. In all her lives, something has gone wrong; a big bad evil was chasing her down. The key to finding out how to stop it is to revisit her past lives. In this book, Syd only visits one of her past lives, but with six other books, I expect to visit even more. Bone Dressing is just the beginning of Sydney’s story.

I just loved this book for so many reasons. The whole story is told through the eyes and mind of Sydney. I just love the sardonic snark of Sydney’s “voice.” I really grew to care about Syd, and it caused me to love this story even more. The best part about Bone Dressing is the 180-degree turn it takes about half way through the novel. I did not expect or see it coming at all. That makes me like the book even more; there was no indication at all. Reading is always more enjoyable, when it tell you a story you did not know you would hear.

I just love the whole past lives, and reincarnation aspect of Bone Dressing. It is an unusual subject is a refreshing read. I could not be more pleased and grateful that Michelle contacted me to review this book. I love the relationship between Beau and Sydney it is more realistic. They are fight and have arguments just like a normal relationship. Bone Dressing is just an interesting read that grows on you.

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.

This week my Waiting on Wednesday is

the sequel to Hollowland....

After six months in the quarantine, Remy finds out things are much worse than she feared. Her plans to escape come with a heavy cost, and she realizes that zombies aren't the worst of her problems.(copied from Goodreads)

I recently read the first one, Hollowland. I just love this book, Remy is just a great character and I fell in love with her. The way the first book ended has me patiently OK maybe impatiently waiting on the sequel. To see more from Amanda Hocking, check out her blog.

Please leave a link to you WoW so I can check it out!
I also have a Winner's choice giveaway going here for just a few more days
