About the Book
Title: The Cave
Author: Michela Montgomery
Series: The Wind Cave #1
Publisher: Post Hill Press
Publication Date: April 7, 2015
Genres: New Adult, Post-Apocalyptic
When a nuclear war devastates the U.S., a four-day excursion quickly turns into a fight for survival in The Cave. Six Stanford students journey into one of the deepest and longest caves in North America. A day into their journey, a nuclear war begins from within the U.S. Unable to return to the surface, and unsure what they will find when they do, the Cave will test the strength and survival of each person differently – transforming six individuals into a team, and ultimately…a family.

My Review of The Cave
The Cave and The Wind Cave series just became one of my new favorite series so far this year. The fight for survival inside the cave is intense as the group has to navigate the underground trails and passageways and ration food in the hopes to survive until it is safe to return to the surface. The relationships that are formed and tested through the story is what makes this novel.

When the group first goes into the Wind Cave, they are not all friends in fact half of them really do not even know each other. As with any group that has to stick together in dire circumstances, they quickly begin to bond as each of them rely on each other. I like the relationships and friendships that form out of the group as they try to hike through the cave to get supplies and stay away from the toxic surface air until it is safe to return. It is not an easy journey and with most of the group having no climbing or caving experience, the simplest of paths can turn deadly if they are not careful.

I will say that I am not a usual fan of the love triangle, as it is overuse in novels today, but I think that the author, Michaela Montgomery, handled it very well. I only hate having to wait until the next book to see how the love triangle plays out or if Kate chooses herself over the boys. I personally would like to see her choose herself and if either of the love interest really cares, I think they will follow her. Now it is just a wait and see game.

There is so much more to the story of this group left to explore and while it is mainly from Kate’s perspective, I hope that the next book gives us more insight into the other characters as the decisions of the future are now in their hands. I think that the battle for survival has really just begun and will continue throughout the series, especially with the next book Aftermath.

 About the Author
Alyssa Rose Ivy is the bestselling author of more than twenty-five novels with over half a million books sold worldwide. She loves to weave stories with romance and humor, and she is best known for writing about college boys with wings and skinny dipping. After surviving law school and earning her masters in library science, she turned back to her creative side and decided to write. Although raised in the New York area, she fell in love with the South after moving to New Orleans for college. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and two young children, and she can usually be found with a cup of coffee in her hand.

My Thoughts: I loved the first book, Forged in Stone! I loved James and Ainsley story and see some of my favorite characters from Alyssa's Afterglow Trilogy. The best part is that you do not have to read the Afterglow Trilogy to enjoy the Forged Chronicles but for fans they get to see some of their favorites all grown up. The end of Forged in Stone has me dying to read Forged in Ice and the cover is just phenomenal.

Floor 21 Blog Tour: Review

Welcome to Unabridged Bookshelf's stop on the Floor 21 Blog Tour!  Make sure to check out everything going on during this tour by clicking the banner above.

About the Book
Title: Floor 21
Author: Jason Luthor
Publication Date: June 2, 2015
Genres: Science Fiction, Dystopia
Purchase: Amazon
As humanity lives out the remainder of its existence at the top of an isolated apartment tower, young Jackie dares to question Tower Authority and their ban on traveling into the tower's depths. Intelligent and unyielding, Jackie ventures into the shadows of the floors below. But will her strong will and refusal to be quiet—in a society whose greatest pride is hiding the past—bring understanding of how humanity became trapped in the tower she has always called home, or will it simply be her undoing?

About the Author
Jason Luthor has spent a long life writing for sports outlets,
media companies and universities. His earliest writing years came during his coverage of the San Antonio Spurs as an affiliate with the Spurs Report and its media partner, WOAI Radio. He would later enjoy a moderate relationship with Blizzard Entertainment, writing lore and stories for potential use in future games. At the academic level he has spent several years pursuing a PhD in American History at the University of Houston, with a special emphasis on Native American history.
His inspirations include some of the obvious; The Lord of the Rings and Chronciles of Narnia are some of the most cited fantasy series in history. However, his favorite reads include the Earthsea Cycle, the Chronicles of Prydain, as well as science fiction hits such as Starship Troopers and Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?

My Review of Floor 21
Floor 21 is really unlike anything I have read in the past from the way the narrative is written to the plotline of the story itself. I will admit that reading the story in a recording style took a little getting used to as someone use to traditional storytelling, but almost immediately, the plot captured me and held my attention through the whole novel. Jackie has some complying arguments and insatiable curiosity, which is why I loved following her story. As a naturally curious person, I know that if I had grown up in the Tower, I would also be curious as to what was before, and why we as humans were there now. It is almost basic human nature to wonder about the past and the future and how they define us.

Jackie is a naturally intelligent young woman on the brink of becoming an adult, and wants answers that the Tower Authority is strictly against giving. All she has to go on is old movies and music to get a sense of the life before The Creep took over the tower. She also wants to know how far down the tower goes and if maybe just maybe there are other people in other towers. These questions lead Jackie down a dangerous path that she documents by recording her thoughts on a personal recorder. This is how readers experience the story through those recordings.

This story has its dark and creepy in way of the mysterious substance known as the Creep that wants to take over the tower and could wipe out the last survivors. This science fiction almost horror element plus the recording narrative makes this book feel like a found footage horror movie almost, except it is not quite so terrifying for the most part. Trust me there are defiantly some creeptastic moments during Floor 21.

I am glad I had the chance to broaden my reading tastes by reading Floor 21 by Jason Luthor. I will be keeping an eye out to see if he continues his story from Floor 21 or anything else, he decides to write in the future.

Cover Reveal: An Immortal's Song

An Immortal's Song by Carrie Ann Ryan
Dante's Circle #6
Expected Publication: April 5, 2016
Pre-Order: Amazon | iBooks | Barnes and Noble
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Adult
Humans aren’t as alone as they choose to believe. Every human possesses a trait of supernatural that lays dormant within their genetic make-up. Centuries of diluting and breeding have allowed humans to think they are alone and untouched by magic. But what happens when something changes?
Amara Young has always been on the outside looking in. She’s the one lightning-struck woman out of her group who has never felt as if she’s belonged. She lost a year of her life caring for her dying friend, but now it’s her turn to find out who she is. Only when the time comes, two men stand in her way—two men who claim her as theirs.
Tristan Archer, fae royalty and Conclave member, has waited over nine hundred years for his fate. And now he has two chances. While one knows his path, the other seems blind to what they could have. It will take more than a simple risk for Tristan to finally have what he desires…that is if Amara and Seth can overcome their own uncertainties.
While the other two in his life are fighting themselves and their futures, Seth Oceanus knows exactly what he wants. The younger brother of a Conclave member and relatively young in his realm, he knows he’ll have to prove himself so others see him for who he truly is.
As the triad succumbs to their cravings, they will have to fight more than their overwhelming feelings in order to survive.
Warning: Contains an innocent merman, a very talented fae, and a human woman who can outpace them both.

 About the Author

New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan never thought she’d be a
writer. Not really. No, she loved math and science and even went on to graduate school in chemistry. Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.
Carrie Ann is a bestselling author of over twenty novels and novellas and has so much more on her mind (and on her spreadsheets *grins*) that she isn’t planning on giving up her dream anytime soon.

Waiting on Wednesday: Lady Midnight

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.

 I am waiting on:

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1)
Title: Lady Midnight
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Dark Artifices #1
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Publication Date: March 8, 2016
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal,
Los Angeles. It’s been five years since the events of the Mortal Instruments when Nephilim stood poised on the brink of oblivion and Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs lost her parents. After the blood and violence she witnessed as a child, Emma has dedicated her life to to discovering exactly what it was that killed her parents and getting her revenge.
Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn. A series of murders in the city catch her attention — they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents. Could the murderer be the same person? And her attention isn’t the only one caught: someone has been murdering Downworlders as well. The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute: if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they’ll return Mark Blackthorn to his home. The catch: they have only two weeks to find the killers. Otherwise it’s open war between faeries and Nephilim.
The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them. At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she’s absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love. Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica.
Why am I waiting?
I have yet to finish The Mortal Instrument series, or even start the Infernal Devices, but I am hoping to get to them before the new series comes out. I love the Shadowhunter world, and I am curious to see what happens in this Los Angeles based series and how it differs from the New York based The Mortal Instrument series.

In a perfect world, sixteen-year-old Phoebe Martins’ life would be a book. Preferably a YA novel with magic and a hot paranormal love interest. But when Phoebe finds out that Dev, the hottest guy in the clarinet section, might actually have a crush on her, she turns to her favorite books for advice. Phoebe overhauls her personality to become as awesome as her favorite heroines and win Dev’s heart. But if her plan fails, can she go back to her happy world of fictional boys after falling for the real thing?

An action-packed prequel to the Amazon bestselling NOLA Zombie series. This isn't a romance...there aren't any happily-ever-afters, this is just Romeo's fight for survival and how he became a NOLA Survivor.
It's Friday night in New Orleans and Tim "Romeo" Voiter has the night off. A night of rest and relaxation is something new for the former Marine, and he's looking forward to enjoying a fun night out with his buddy, Lucas Martinez.  The two men try to ignore the emergency broadcasts and news about the spreading iKPV virus and just enjoy the evening. Romeo, true to his name, even hooks up with a hot redhead and plans on ending the evening at her place.
Plans come crashing down, though, as he comes face to face with what the iKPV infected really looks like–and it is not like any infection he's encountered before.  Knowing the media is sugarcoating the virus and things are about to get a lot worse in his city, Romeo talks his family into leaving their urban home and bugging out to a more secluded and secure area; the compound his employers own at the edge of the city, deep in the marsh that surrounds New Orleans. But, as the infection spreads and New Orleans begins to fall under the chaos of victims gone made with the virus, Romeo begins to realize that the "stuff" has hit the fan in New Orleans and things will never be the same for the Voiters.

About the Author

Gillian Zane is the author of the NOLA Zombie series. Zane is the pen name of a prominent blogger
in the publishing industry, which will remain a mystery unless you Google it. Since she can remember her goal has been to become Master of the Universe and has decided to focus first on the literary world. Things are progressing nicely.
Zane has been a freelance writer for the last ten years and has published a few non-fiction works, none of which was very exciting. Zombies are much more exciting and a way for her to combine her two current obsessions, hot boys with guns and Doomsday Prepping. When she isn't stockpiling MREs (Meal's Ready to Eat) or researching how to build a cistern on a budget, she's taking care of her little family and exploring the city that she loves, New Orleans.
