Book Review: The Collector

13449677
Title: The Collector
Author: Victoria Scott
Series: Dante Walker #1
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication Date: April 2, 2013
Length: 352 Pages
Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Book Depository
He makes good girls...bad.
Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence has made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big, red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.
Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:
Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.
Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

MY REVIEW
Oh Dante Walker why do you have to be such a bad boy? Dante is so unlikable at the beginning of The Collector; you just want to slap him upside the head. Some of the things Dante thinks or says are just so far beyond mean they are just down right cruel. Can you expect much more from a demon? Really, The Collector is about Charlie Cooper and her ability to see the good in everyone despite what they may say or how they act. The problem is that Dante has 10 days to collect the amazingly good girl, Charlie Cooper soul or he loses his chance get out of hell free card.

Do not get me wrong, Dante may start as a demonic jerk, but because of Charlie, he slowly experiences the world in a different light. This may not be the story I thought I was going to read, but it is a much more beautiful and tragic one. Dante is much more than your typical bad boy.

Victoria Scott is a genius when it comes to creating the story in The Collector. Dante’s story is not an easy one to write, because if written the wrong way the main character would be so hated no one would want to read it, or his journey would seem false. Victoria Scott does a wonderful job peeling back the layers on Dante, while keeping readers enthralled.

I know that I have to see where Dante’s story takes him next after the ending of The Collector. With The Liberator, I can only expect more layers of Dante to be revealed.
