My Review of Unmade

The last book in the Lynburn Legacy series did not disappoint. The stakes have never been higher, and Kami refuses to let Rob Lynburn and his sorcerers take over their town. Kami and her friends have to face insurmountable odds if they want any chance to free their hometown. Even with the dire circumstances, Sarah Rees Brennan manages a good bit of humor, which was always my favorite part of the entire Lynburn Legacy Series.

Kami has remained steadfast in her beliefs and her will to fight even against her own mother. Just the type of character I love to read about, and root for throughout the story. The anticipation I had reading this was intense, I was not sure I could stay goodbye to all these characters. I will say that Sarah Rees Brennan really managed to finish this series and give it a feeling of completion.  

The range of emotion I felt while reading Unmade was vast. There were times I was cheering or laughing aloud, and times I was crying. I have to give props to any book that makes me that emotional. Also Unmade can make you look unhinged if reading in public, I know I got a few looks while reading in the waiting room at the doctor’s office.

The Lynburn Legacy is the first book I have read by Sarah Rees Brennan but I plan to read many more books by her. If you have not read the first book in the Lynburn Legacy, Unspoken, go ahead and jump on the bandwagon now. Trust me it will be worth it.

My Review of Untold

Kami Glass is one of my favorite young adult characters and Unspoken a definite favorite also. When I started Untold, I knew it was going to surpass Unspoken, and boy did it. There is more danger and evil lurking in Untold. While most citizens of Sorry-in-the-Vale chose to ignore or hide, Kami and her group of friends chose to plan and fight back. 

Kami is highly intelligent and a very though journalist. She is really like a modern day Nancy Drew, if Nancy Drew had to fight evil sorcerers to save her town. Kami’s sense of humor and her comedic timing made me laugh so many times. In fact, all of Kami’s friends can be quite hilarious. This is the best part even in the darkest of time; one of the group cracks a joke and releases some of the tension. 

I will have to say this one ends on quite a bit of a cliffhanger. With certain things up in the air and even more danger on the way, Unmade is probably going to be mind-blowing. I am sad to see the Lynburn Legacy series comes to an end. I could always use more Kami in my life. I just hope some of the unanswered questions finally get answers. 

Sarah Rees Brennan has created such a powerful but still funny series. If you have ever been a fan of mysteries with a paranormal twist, this series and Untold are the books for you. I love this series and I think Untold outdoes Unspoken. Just as I am sure, Unmade is going to outdo Untold.

Why am I waiting?

After the cliffhanger of Untold, I am dying to read Unmade, but I also do not want to say goodbye to Kami and the gang. I know that I have to find out how it ends though, and if Kami can actually come up with a plan to defeat Rob. I have high hopes, and hopefully come September those hopes will pay off.

MY REVIEW

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan is a paranormal mystery that is simply hilarious. I have laughed continually through the whole book, because the one-liners in the book are just fantastic. Kami Glass is a sarcastic journalist, who is determined to uncover the secrets of her small town. Kami has a secret of her own, that only her best friend knows Kami has an “imaginary” friend that she talks to in her head. What Kami really wants to know is the secrets of the Lynburns, the mysterious family that left town years ago before she was born, and when they Lynburns finally return, she has her chance. Kami befriends Ash Lynburn and wants to uncover the family secrets, but when Ash’s cousin Jared arrives, everything changes. 

Jared Lynburn is not just any guy, he happens to be the “imaginary” friend that knows all Kami's secret thoughts. The problem is that he is reckless, and now that he is real, Kami feel very insecure with someone knowing all her inner most thoughts. Kami finds out that there are animals are being tortured in the woods by her house, she decides that she need to find out who is behind it. The investigation puts Kami in terrible danger, and it is up to her and her friends to investigate what is happening in their town. Kami creates an investigation team with her best friend Angie, Holly, Ash, and Jared. Together they hope to piece together the terrible things going on in the shadows of their quiet town. 

Unspoken is a book that can has you laughing like a lunatic one moment and tense and apprehensive about what could happen next. That is not an easy transition to pull off, but Sarah Rees Brennan does it flawlessly. It is hard to find a good old fashion teenage sleuth book in young adult books today, or it is at least for me. Even with a bit of a paranormal twist, Unspoken had me feel nostalgia for Nancy Drew, and Trixie Belden. Unspoken has more sarcasm and comedy, but that just makes it better. Even the cover reminds me of the old covers for Nancy Drew. 

I am so glad I read Unspoken, and I really cannot wait for the next installment of the Lynburn Legacy. If you are a fan of mysteries, especially the teen sleuth variety, Unspoken is a must read! I loved every second of it, and I could not tear myself away.
