Ever since Tory Brennan and her friends rescued Cooper, a kidnapped wolf pup with a rare strain of canine parvovirus, they've turned from regular kids into a crime-solving pack. But now the very place that brought them together - the Loggerhead Island Research Institute - is out of funding and will have to shut down. That is, unless the Virals can figure out a way to save it.
So when Tory learns of an old Charleston legend about a famous she-pirate, Anne Bonney, whose fortune was never found, she can't believe her luck - buried treasure is exactly what she needs to save the Institute on Loggerhead! Trouble is, she and her friends aren't the only ones looking for it. And this time, the Virals' special powers may not be enough to dig them out of trouble . . .
MY REVIEW
If Seizure was a treasure map, then danger marks the spot. The Viral series and Seizure makes me nostalgic every time I read it. The elements of Seizure remind me of the books I grew up on the Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden series. In Seizure, they have the added bonus of super powers due to a mutated parvovirus, which connected them as more than friends but as a pack. As an added note: Fans of the Temperance Brennan series will get to see their favorite character make a brief appearance.

In Seizure, the funding for Loggerhead Island is being cut, and possibly being sold along with all the housing. As their parents search for new jobs, Tory, Ben Blue, Hiram, and Shelton risk being split up and moving to different states maybe even different countries. Tory decides it is up to the Virals to save Loggerhead and their friendship by going after the legendary Anne Bonney’s pirate treasure. Tory is not going to give up, but the bad guys are not too far behind.

There is also not any lack of love interest on Tory’s part either, from the popular jock, Jason to Ben, possibly. Ben seems to be protective of Tory and he hates her hanging out with Jason. I might be reading too much into Ben’s actions, but I am kind of rooting for him in the who wins Tory’s love cage match.

Seizure has more action and danger lurks around every unexpected corner. The tension is higher, and the payoff is better. The Virals series is a great young adult paranormal detective series, and that is something that is sorely lacking in the Young Adult genre. I cannot wait to continue the Virals adventures in Code.
