About the Book

Title: Going Down in Flames
Author: Chris Cannon
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication Date: June 30, 2014
Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy,
If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.
Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.
Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.
Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.
At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can't have.

My Review of Going Down in Flames
Going Down in Flames is a hilarious, but adventurous tale, which had me wondering why I have not read any Dragon books before this one. I know there out there, but Going Down in Flames is the first one that caught my attention. I am so glad I decided to give this novel a shot, because Bryn makes this book a must read. Her sarcasm and her headstrong stubbornness really made me love her as a character.

While Bryn wants to be able to stand up for herself and face the threats and demeaning comments on her own, it was really the friendships that help her make it through the day to day. While Bryn is supposed to be an outcast due to her lineage, she manages to make friends with people from almost every dragon clan. Bryn is also a threat to the ruling body of the Dragons, the Directorate, because she defies the very thing they are try to protect, Clan Only Marriages.  That is not all, since she is the daughter of both a Red Dragon and Blue Dragon, she has more powers than anyone else does, and that also makes her a threat to the Dragon Community.

Bryn’s ability to see the complete control the Directorate has over dragons, and the common sense to see how that much control is not good for anyone. Her opinions against the Directorate have to be one of the top reasons why I love Bryn’s character so much. I am curious to see where her stubbornness will take her next, and can only hope that there may be more dragons in Chris Cannon’s future.

I loved the relationships in Going Down in Flames, and the characters interactions were believable. It was like sitting around with a group of friends and watching them rag on each other, but still always have their backs. I hope that there will be more to this story, and Chris Cannon surprises us with more of Bryn, her friends, and fellow students. I thoroughly enjoyed Going Down in Flames, and I cannot wait to see what Chris Cannon is up to next.
