Waiting on Wednesday: Darkbound

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.
 I am waiting on:

Darkbound (Legacy of Moonset, #2)
Title: Darkbound
Author: Scott Tracey
Series: The Legacy of Moonset #2
Publisher: Flux
Publication Date: April 8, 2014
Malcolm has seven days to unravel a twenty year old mystery, find a body, capture a killer and keep a demon at arm's length.
No one hates being a witch quite like Malcolm. But if there's one thing worse than being a witch, it's being a Moonset witch. There are very few things in his life that he can control, and after a fight with his siblings, he's losing his grip on what he's got left.
A creature as old as Hamelin has crept out of the Abyss, and its siren song has infected the teenagers of Carrow Mill compelling them, at first, to simply be swept away in love. But love soon turns dangerous, as passion turns to violence and an army of sociopaths is born.
The Pied Piper isn't just a story, and he's got his eyes set on Malcolm, promising a life of freedom from magic and the shackles of the Moonset bond. As Carrow Mill burns, Malcolm must make the hardest choice of his life: family? Or freedom?
Why am I waiting?
I loved everything about Moonset, and I have been very impatiently waiting for Darkbound to release. Now I only have a few more weeks until it releases! I am have to know what is going to happen to the Moonset Coven and what does Malcolm decided!

What are you waiting on?

Happy Release Day to Scott Tracey and Phantom Eyes!!

About the Book

Title: Phantom Eyes
Author: Scott Tracey
Series: Witch Eyes #3
Publisher: Flux
Publication Date: October 8, 2013
Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Every child in Belle Dam is taught about the feud from an early age. There are ‘our’ people and ‘their’ people. Friends and enemies. Associates and strangers. It’s the kind of town where eyes are always watching, and you don’t need a reason to sell out your neighbors.
But the feud is a lie. As a new wave of fury sweeps through the town, creating a third front to an already overtaxed war, Braden has been broken worse than ever. His innocence? Shattered. His heart? Crushed. His magic? Gone. His new life? Ruined. And this is only the beginning.
Beneath the city lay deep wellsprings of power. The one who controls them is the one who will win the feud. In a city filled with puppet masters, Braden must elude their strings and end the feud once and for all. But first, he must outsmart his father, evade Catherine’s dark magic, regain what was stolen from him, trick a phantom who refuses to die, and foil a demon’s master plan.
Even then, he may not survive. Because power is a problem, and victory comes with a cost…
The Witch Eyes Series

Witch Eyes is one of my favorite series of all time, and I cannot wait to continue the story in Phantom Eyes!

About the Author
Scott wrote his autobiography at age six, and its all been downhill since then. He traveled the country on a Greyhound for a month, devoted a semester of school to starting a series of urban legends, and spent five years perfecting how to say “would you like fries with that” for a short story. Or so he claims.

Length: 384 Pages

Moonset, a coven of such promise . . . Until they turned to the darkness.
After the terrorist witch coven known as Moonset was destroyed fifteen years ago—during a secret war against the witch Congress—five children were left behind, saddled with a legacy of darkness. Sixteen-year-old Justin Daggett, son of a powerful Moonset warlock, has been raised alongside the other orphans by the witch Congress, who fear the children will one day continue the destruction their parents started.
A deadly assault by a wraith, claiming to work for Moonset’s most dangerous disciple, Cullen Bridger, forces the five teens to be evacuated to Carrow Mill. But when dark magic wreaks havoc in their new hometown, Justin and his siblings are immediately suspected. Justin sets out to discover if someone is trying to frame the Moonset orphans . . . or if Bridger has finally come out of hiding to reclaim the legacy of Moonset. He learns there are secrets in Carrow Mill connected to Moonset’s origins, and keeping the orphans safe isn’t the only reason the Congress relocated them ...
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Scott Tracey is a YA author who lived on a Greyhound for a month, wrote his illustrated autobiography at the age of six, and barely survived Catholic school (and definitely not for the reasons you might think).
He is the author of WITCH EYES, chosen as one of Amazon’s Best LGBT Books of 2011, as well as an ALA Popular Paperback in the Forbidden Romance category.  The final book in the WITCH EYES trilogy, PHANTOM EYES, will be released in the fall of 2013.
He is also the author of MOONSET, a new series which will be released April 8, 2013, as well as a contributor to the SHADOWHUNTERS & DOWNWORLDERS anthology, edited by Cassandra Clare.
His career highlights include: accidentally tripping a panic alarm which led to nearly being shot by the police; attacked in a drive-thru window by a woman wielding a baked potato, and once moving cross country for a job only to quit on the second day.
His gifts can be used for good or evil, but rather than picking a side, he strives for BOTH (in alternating capacity) for his own amusement.

MY REVIEW
I have been a fan of Scott Tracey since I first read Witch Eyes, and I could not wait to experience his new series. Moonset is the first book in The Legacy of Moonset series, and it is unbelievably phenomenal. The five children of Moonset are the black sheep of the witching world, simply because of the travesties their parents committed when they were still in diapers. While they may not all be biological siblings, they are a family.

The oldest is Malcolm Denton, but he does not want anything to do with the magic that destroyed his family and his life. That leaves Justin Dagget as the spoke person and quasi leader, who is forced to deal with his twin, Jenna’s antics. Jenna is a notorious troublemaker, whose actions have resulted in the children of Moonset being repeatedly moved. Cole Sutter is the second youngest, and he is mischievous and likes to follow in Jenna’s shadow. Bailey is the youngest, and she is the most effected by the numerous moves and the constant changing of schools.

Moonset keeps the action coming from the very beginning. Just when you get comfortable, it ramps up the pace. It is a roller coaster ride of a read, with twists, turns, ups, and downs, but it is the best kind of roller coaster ride, terrifying but you are completely in love with it at the same time. I am seriously at a loss of words at how to describe how much a loved this book. I dropped everything I was doing and even made my daughter late for school just so I could finish a few more pages.

Now I will be sitting here waiting, eagerly waiting, for the next book in the series to see what is going to happen to the Moonset kids. I guess I will have to fill the void with Phantom Eyes when it comes out in October. I have said before and I will say it again, Scott Tracey is a genius.

Book Review: Ripper by Amy Carol Reeves

Title: Ripper
Author: Amy Carol Reeves
Publisher: Flux
Publication Date: April 8, 2012

BUY RIPPER

In 1888, following her mother's sudden death, 17-year-old Arabella Sharp goes to live with her grandmother in a posh London neighborhood. At her grandmother's request, Abbie volunteers at Whitechapel Hospital, where she discovers a passion for helping the unfortunate women and children there. But within days, female patients begin turning up brutally murdered at the hands of Jack the Ripper.(From Goodreads)

MY REVIEW

Ripper by Amy Carol Reeves takes the story of Jack the Ripper, and adds a paranormal twist. Arabella grew up playing with on the streets of Dublin, but when her mother passes away, she is forced to move in with her aristocratic grandmother in London. Her grandmother trying to make up for disowning her daughter wants to make Arabella into a woman worthy of a fortunate marriage. Soon after her arrival in London, she begins to have visions.

At first, she thinks it is just a fluke, until she starts working at the Whitechapel Hospital caring for the women of the Whitechapel district. When her visions start to appear to coincide with the famous Ripper attacks, Arabella discovers that the two maybe connected. Arabella soon discovers she maybe the only one who can put a stop to the horrific attacks, and save the women of East London. This book does not lack romance as two of the young doctors both offer Arabella a chance a romance.

Arabella is strong and independent from growing up in Dublin, which makes her not fit in as well in the aristocratic background of her grandmother’s world. It makes her determined to help others, including trying to protect her patients from Jack the Ripper. It also captures the eyes of both Simon St. John, and William Siddal, two young handsome doctors. Simon comes from the same high society as Arabella’s grandmother, and his parents are even social friends with her grandmother. William Siddal is comes from more of an artist background, which her grandmother disapproves.

I have to say that I have always been fascinated with the Jack the Ripper murders, probably because they were so brutal and never solved. There is something to say  that even nearly 124 years later, most people still know about. For a killer, if he wanted infamy he surely got it. This book changes and takes some small liberties with the incidences and details of the murders, but that is why it is a work of fiction.  I think it is creative, and enjoyable. I sincerely hope there is another book to follow, because this one left me wanting more! Even for those who do not know about Jack the Ripper, it is still a great paranormal mystery book.
