Teaser Tuesday: City of Ashes

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along, just do as following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Be careful not to include any spoilers so as not to ruin the book for others!
Make sure to share the title and the author so other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their to be read piles.

My teaser this week comes from:
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)
Title: City of Ashes
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Mortal Instruments #2
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Publication Date: March 25, 2008

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.
To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?
In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Yes I am finally reading the second book in The Mortal Instrument books. I have been planning on doing it for a couple years, but I kept putting it off. Now that I have started I feel a Mortal Instruments Binge session coming on.

My Teaser"Well, I'm not kissing the mundane," said Jace, "I'd rather stay down here and rot."
"Forever?" said Simon. "Forever's an awfully long time."
Jace raised his eyebrows.

I know many of my bookish friends have read this series, but it seems to get mixed reviews... Your teaser was funny, though!

Here is my Halloween edition of TT.

I like your teaser. This isn't a genre I usually read, but I think I could get into this book.
My Teaser today is from THE FUNERAL DRESS.
