Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths, One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.
Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.
Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.
If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Waiting on Wednesday: The Nightmare Dilemma

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.
 I am waiting on:

The Nightmare Dilemma (The Arkwell Academy, #2)
Title: The Nightmare Dilemma
Author: Mindee Arnett
Series: The Arkwell Academy #2
Publisher: Tor Teen
Publication Date: March 4, 2014
The second in a thrilling new fantastical mystery series
Dusty Everhart might be able to predict the future through the dreams of her crush, Eli Booker, but that doesn’t make her life even remotely easy. When one of her mermaid friends is viciously assaulted and left for dead, and the school’s jokester, Lance Rathbone, is accused of the crime, Dusty’s as shocked as everybody else. Lance needs Dusty to prove his innocence by finding the real attacker, but that’s easier asked than done. Eli’s dreams are no help, more nightmares than prophecies.
To make matters worse, Dusty’s ex-boyfriend has just been acquitted of conspiracy and is now back at school, reminding Dusty of why she fell for him in the first place. The Magi Senate needs Dusty to get close to him, to discover his real motives. But this order infuriates Eli, who has started his own campaign for Dusty’s heart.
As Dusty takes on both cases, she begins to suspect they’re connected to something bigger. And there’s something very wrong with Eli’s dreams, signs that point to a darker plot than they could have ever imagined.
Why am I waiting?
I loved the Nightmare Affair, the first book in the Arkwell Academy #1, and I am really excited to see where the story is going to go in The Nightmare Dilemma. I am also a fan of Eli and Dusty and really hope everything works out for them. Have you read The Nightmare Affair?

What are you waiting on?

Cover Reveal: Captivate Me

Captivate Me by S.J. Pierce
Expected Publication: April 1, 2014
 Cover Design by Brittany Bowman
Genres: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance
“My mom had always told me – when you meet “the one”, you’ll know; they’ll captivate your heart the moment you lay eyes on them. I had always wondered, though, if my mom’s words of wisdom were finite – if they applied to everyone. Maybe those who had found their one great love were the lucky few, and maybe the rest of us would have to settle for less than earth-shattering.”
Seventeen-year-old Kat Walsh is a Gifted – a human with paranormal abilities. With her mom a former Angel and her dad a dream prophet, it’s always been in her genetic make-up to be extraordinary. Unfortunately for her, the world can’t handle the strange or unusual. So when she slips up and uses her powers at her high school in Ireland, the entire student body treats her like a freak – even the ones she thought were her closest friends.
Broken, but hopeful for a fresh start, she allows her parents to enroll her in a boarding school buried deep within the forests of a small Colorado town. At Midland Pines, School for the Gifted, she feels as though she can finally be herself; she makes new friends and even has the attention of the most popular guy in school – Levi. Everything feels normal again… or does it?
Not long after her arrival, weird dreams of an alluring boy whom she’s never met surface during the night, and the eerie, shadowy trees encircling their school seem to call to her. As these disturbing, yet enticing developments intensify, other bizarre occurrences happen – students and staff turn up missing, and mystery visitors leave gifts while she sleeps. With all of these other things vying for her attention, a desperate Levi has to fight even harder to keep her interest. But with the dreams of the attractive boy slowly captivating her heart, Kat has to make a choice – will she settle for ‘great’ Levi, or will she search for her elusive dream visitor, possibly stumbling across ‘amazing?’
From the author of the Alyx Rayer Chronicles, comes a refreshingly different Young Adult series with plenty of love, suspense, and a new take on the Paranormal.
Recommended for readers 16 and up due to mature content.

Elevated by Elana Johnson
Expected Publication: February 18, 2014
 Buy Elevated: Kobo
The last person seventeen-year-old Eleanor Livingston wants to see on the elevator—let alone get stuck with—is her ex-boyfriend Travis, the guy she's been avoiding for five months.
Plagued with the belief that when she speaks the truth, bad things happen, Elly hasn’t told Trav anything. Not why she broke up with him and cut off all contact. Not what happened the day her father returned from his deployment to Afghanistan. And certainly not that she misses him and still thinks about him everyday.
But with nowhere to hide and Travis so close it hurts, Elly’s worried she won’t be able to contain her secrets for long. She’s terrified of finally revealing the truth, because she can’t bear to watch a tragedy befall the boy she still loves.
Praise for ELEVATED:
"ELEVATED will take you on an emotionally gripping journey through the highs and lows of first love."
~Carolee Dean, author of Take Me There and Forget Me Not

"Poignant, raw, and intense, ELEVATED is a novel that will grip your heart and linger in your mind long after you turn the last page."
~Stasia Ward Kehoe, author of Audition and The Sound of Letting Go

 About the Author

Elana Johnson’s work, including Possession, Surrender, Abandon, and Regret, published by Simon Pulse

My Thoughts: I really love the cover, it fits the story and it is beautiful. I really want to know what secret Elly is hiding from Travis. I would not want to be stuck in an elevator with an ex-boyfriend, especially if I had a secret that would alter their life.

London Falling Blog Tour: Review and Giveaway

Welcome to Unabridged Bookshelf's stop on the London Falling Blog Tour!  Make sure to check out everything going on during this tour by clicking the banner above.

About the Book
Title: London Falling
Author: T.A. Foster
Publication Date: Janurary 14, 2014
Genres: New Adult, Contemporary Romance,
It’s London’s senior year and she only needs one class to graduate. She just didn’t expect her final assignment: fall in love.
Communication 224 has a reputation for giving out the most unique projects of the semester. When London James and Beau Anderson signed up for the class they had no idea they would be paired up together, much less spend an entire semester working on their final grade.
Professor Garcia tasks them to produce a study on the hit reality show, Love Match, a show about strangers falling in love on over the top dates. London and Beau decide to debunk the popular show’s fantasy portrayal of romance. Determined they can date the entire semester and not fall for each other, the classmates share blogs about their dates and start a website where everyone can follow their dating experiment. Resisting their growing attraction for one another is harder than they thought.
London is in for the toughest class of her college career. The headstrong and success-driven student discovers there might be more important things in life than an A.

About the Author
T.A. Foster is a Southern girl whose heart and spirit are connected to the beach. She grew up catching rays
and chasing waves along the North Carolina Outer Banks and now resides in the state with her adventurous pilot husband, two children and two canine kiddos.
Her long love affair with books started at an early age, and as soon as she was able, she transformed imaginative stories into words on paper. Time Spell is T.A.’s debut novel, and the first in a series about a very adventurous, clever, and magical girl named Ivy.
T.A. has an undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a graduate degree in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University. When she’s not chasing her two-legged and four-legged children or trying to escape for date night, you can find her reading, writing or planning her next beach trip.

My Review of
London Falling is a beautiful story about reality, love, and the unexpected. Reality television has more often than not the feeling of being stage or even scripted. London James thought the same when her professor assigns s her and her Communications 224 partner, Beau to analyze and be the reality dating show “Love Match.” London and Beau decide that just going on highly over the top dates based off the ones on the show is not enough to bring out real romantic feelings.

London is a Straight-A student, who only needs Communication 224 to graduate and she is determined to keep her Straight-A status. Beau maybe pre-law, but he is a live in the moment and experience life type of person. London cannot see herself falling in love on a few dates with someone like Beau right before graduation and leaving for California. This seems like a slam-dunk way to end college, but it may not be as easy as it seems as Beau opens London up to new experiences.

I liked the way “Love Match” was incorporated into the story and actually becomes an integral  part of London and Beau’s story and relationship. London has been so focused on her stuffing and theatre that she never had the “normal” college experience. While I admire her focus and drive, I think Beau is a perfect balance for her. Beau makes London stop and experience life around her. Falling in love with Beau is not in London’s plan and it could cause her to fail Communications 224.

London Falling is a delightful story and does not completely revolve around the experiment keeping the story fresh. I liked the story development and T.A. Foster is writing style. I would most defiantly read something by her again.

Cover Reveal: Of Sea and Stone

Of Sea and Stone by Kate Avery Ellison

Expected Publication: February 2014
 Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy
All her life, clever Aemi has been a slave in the Village of the Rocks, a place where the sea and sky meet. She’s heard the stories about the fabled People of the Sea, a people who possess unimaginable technology who live below the waves in the dark, secret places of the ocean. But she never dreamed those stories were true.
When a ship emerges from the ocean and men burn her village, Aemi is captured, and enslaved below the waves in Itlantis, a world filled with ancient cities of glass and metal, floating gardens, and wondrous devices that seem to work magic. To make matters worse, her village nemesis, the stuck-up mayor’s son Nol, was captured with her, and they are made servants in the same household beneath the sea.
Desperate to be free, Aemi plots her escape, even going so far as to work with Nol. But the sea holds more secrets than she realizes, and escape might not be as simple as leaving…
 About the Author
I've been making up stories since I was five years old, and now I'm thrilled to be able to do it as a full-time
job. I have an obsession with dark fantasy, dystopian futures, and Pride and Prejudice-style love stories full of witty banter and sizzling, unspoken feelings. When I'm not writing, I'm creating digital art, reading funny blogs, or watching my favorite shows (which include TVD and BSG). I live with my geeky husband and our two bad cats in Atlanta, GA.

My Thoughts: The idea of being trapped in a city under the sea is both terrifying and exciting. I would love to live or at least visit an underwater city, if it were ever possible, but being enslaved and imprisoned I'll pass. I am curious to see what Aemi experiences in Itlantis.

Waiting on Wednesday: Panic

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we cannot wait to get our hands on.
 I am waiting on:
Panic
Title: Panic
Author: Lauren Oliver
Publisher: HarperCollins
Publication Date: March 4, 2014
Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a dead-end town of 12,000 people in the middle of nowhere: because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do.
Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.
Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.
For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.
Why am I waiting?
This one sounds like it is going to be a dangerous but exciting adventure through Panic. I have not read anything by Lauren Oliver, but I have been meaning to for awhile. I think I may just have to start with Panic. I am also curious to see what Dodge's secret is and if Heather finds out about it.

What are you waiting on?

Cover Reveal: Where We Hide

Where We Hide by Dulaney-Glen
Expected Publication: March 2014
 Cover Design by Okay Creations
Genres: Adult, Contemporary Romance,
It was a wrinkled, white envelope pushed to the back of the mailbox. In it, a note carrying one word written at the top …
Tallence.
It held everything that I had been hiding from for twelve years ... our past, our memories, the pain, and the hope of healing. Everything that I had given up on in just one letter, and all it said was:
Everyone is hiding from something … until we’re not, and that’s when the real struggle begins. When there’s nothing and nowhere left to hide.
I’m done hiding.
-Grant
 About the Author
K. Dulaney was born, raised, and still resides in the Mountains of North Carolina. She is the proud mother to an amazing little boy, and happily married to her high school sweetheart. Dulaney attended Southern Universities and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Masters in Family Studies. Her passion for reading and books began at very early age, and Dulaney dreamed of one day writing stories of her own. Partnering with her sister, J. Glen, they began a journey that has exceeded their expectations and proven that through hard work and determination, that dream can be a reality.

J. Glen is a North Carolina native currently residing in a small mountainous town. She attended an East Coast university and obtained a degree in Communication and Journalism. With an interest in writing at a young age, Glen had one idea of the perfect career and now, along with the help of her sister, she's embarking on a journey to achieve just that.

My Thoughts: Where We Hide has an intriguing synopsis, and I really want to know what it is that Grant has been hiding for 12 years. I suspect this maybe a tearjerk, because anything that says hidden that long can not be something simple or unemotional.

Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
“They say it’s the quiet ones you have to worry about, and she was quiet, very quiet—when she wasn’t busy despising me with a burning passion.”
Ringo ‘Ringer’ James has a no-strings-attached policy.
Love them, leave them, and remain the eternal bachelor.
After a summer in which every one of his mates has succumbed to settling down, or so it seemed, Ringer is on the lookout for a quick exit. Having had enough of the stomach-turning love fest witnessed over the past three months, Ringer jumps at the opportunity to help out his mate, Max, by heading to Max’s dad’s property for a working holiday.
It’s just what he’s looking for. A remote, dusty homestead in Ballan, with only hard work, a cold beer and a comfy bed to worry about – no women.
Until Miranda Henry.
The privately educated daughter of his boss has returned home from overseas and things are about to get very complicated, very fast. As summer draws to its end, Ringer is about to learn that sometimes attraction defies all logic, and that there really is such a thing as ‘enemies with benefits.’

 About the Author
C.J Duggan is an Australian author who lives with her husband in a rural border town of New South Wales,
Australia.
The Boys of Summer is Book One in her Mature Young Adult Romance Series.

My Thoughts: The colors match very well with the other covers, and they have me craving a trip to the beach even though I unfortunately live in a landlocked state. The bright blues really fit the series theme of summer. I also like the "enemies with benefits" in the description. It has defiantly peaked my interest.
