The Hazards of Mistletoe: Excerpt, Review and Giveaway

Welcome to the Release Day Lauch on The Hazards of Mistletoe Blog Tour!  Make sure to check out everything going on during this tour by clicking the banner above.

About the Book
Title: The Hazards of Mistletoe
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Series: The Hazards #4
Publication Date: November 20, 2014
Genres: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance,
One snowy Christmas Eve, one mistletoe kiss, one friendship changed forever.
Don’t underestimate the power of mistletoe. It looks innocent enough, but a single branch has the potential to change your life. One mistletoe kiss led to the most embarrassing night of my life, but thankfully by the next Christmas I ended up exactly where I was supposed to be.

 About the Author
Alyssa Rose Ivy is a New Adult and Young Adult author who loves to weave stories with romance
and
a southern setting. Although raised in the New York area, she fell in love with the South after moving to New Orleans for college. After years as a perpetual student, she turned back to her creative side and decided to write. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and two young children, and she can usually be found with a cup of coffee in her hand.

Excerpt From The Hazards of Mistletoe
“Ice skating and hot cocoa? What are you buttering me up for?” I sat down on the bench and unlaced my skates. The snow was falling a little bit heavier, but the flakes were still light and more pleasant than a nuisance.

“I’m just enjoying an evening with a beautiful woman. I do have a romantic side you know.”

“Romantic?” What was Glen playing at? I’d had a crush on him for years, but things had stayed completely platonic. We were good friends who saw each other once a year, and teased each other through text messages and late night phone calls. That was it.

He didn’t hear me. He was already in line to return our skates. I waited for him to return with my boots, and not for the first time I was glad I’d worn wool socks. It was cold during the day, but the nights were absolutely freezing.

“Here you go, my lady.” He bent down and proceeded to put my foot into my boot.

I pulled away from him. “Knock it off. What’s gotten into you tonight?” As charming as Glen was being something seemed off with him. I wondered if maybe I wasn’t the only one who was upset.

He proceeded to move on to my next boot. “It’s Christmas Eve. Aren’t you Miss Holiday Spirit?”

“Usually.”

“Exactly.” He put on his shoes and tugged on my hand to pull me to standing. “Let’s get those hot chocolates.”

The line at the cafĂ© on the other side of the rink was nearly out the door, but I was enjoying Glen’s company so much I didn’t mind.

He insisted on buying my hot cocoa for me, and considering he’d already paid for my skate rental, I was starting to feel uncomfortable. Glen had all the money he could ever need, but I wasn’t used to guys buying me anything. My dating experience wasn’t extensive, and it involved boys who were all about going dutch. “I really don’t mind paying.”

“Yeah, but I want to pay. Stop arguing and enjoy yourself.” He lightly bumped his shoulder into mine.

“Well, thanks.”

We walked around the village sipping our hot chocolate and not saying much. After a while we took a seat on a bench. It was underneath a tree, and the pine needles blocked some of the falling snow. I closed my eyes and listened to the chatter of people walking by mixed with the low hum of holiday music.

“You guys need to kiss.”

I opened my eyes and saw a girl staring at us. “You’re sitting under mistletoe. That’s the rules. You’re under mistletoe, you kiss.”

I looked up. Sure enough there was mistletoe hanging over us from the tree. It wasn’t real, it was just the decorative stuff they used, but it had the same unmistakable appearance.

Glen put an arm around me. “I think she’s right, Savy.”

I turned to glare at him. “Don’t even start.”

“Why not? Scared to kiss me?” he teased.

Yes. I was scared. Terrified. This was Glen. Kissing him wasn’t something I was prepared to do casually while sitting on a bench in the snow with a bunch of onlookers. Of course I couldn’t tell him that though. “Why would I be scared?”

“I don’t know. Just checking.” He got a twinkle in his eye. That twinkle should have given me all the warning I needed, but it didn’t. I was wholly unprepared when his lips made contact with mine. They were warm and soft, and they moved perfectly against mine. I kissed him back, desperately wanting to know what his mouth tasted like, and if his tongue felt half as good as his lips.

My Review of The Hazards of Mistletoe
The Hazards of Mistletoe is the perfect read for contemporary romance fans that are looking for something to get them in the holiday spirit. I have to say I loved Savannah and Glen story, just as much if not more than the other Hazards stories. I think I liked this one more, simply because it is set around Christmas and it really put me in the mood for the upcoming holiday season. The best part is that as a novella it can easily fit into anyone reading schedule.

Alyssa Rose Ivy is a favorite of mine, everything she writes is gold, and The Hazards of Mistletoe is no exception. Savannah and Glen only see each other when their families get together for Christmas. While they stay in touch and are close friends, there are feeling developing. Obviously thing do not go as planned, or it would not be called The Hazards of Mistletoe. As a love interest, I have to say that I really love Glen, because I knew he would go to any lengths to protect Savannah.

I love so much about this novella, and I am surprise it is a shorter story, because everything packed into it really makes it feel like a full-length story. I always worry that novellas are going to leave you wanting more, and not get in all the details. The Hazards of Mistletoe defiantly left me wanting more but that is just the side effect of reading a novel from Alyssa Rose Ivy.

I am curious to see what happens in the next Hazards novel, and even though it is most likely a different couple, I expect to get a little glimpse of where Savy and Glen are at in their relationship. I am just hoping the next Hazards book is about Jade, that girl needs her own love story.

Will Aurora triumph over evil and reach her brother before it's too late? Can Aurora and Niklaas break the curses that will otherwise forever keep them from finding their one true love?
Why am I waiting?
Game of Thrones meets Sleeping Beauty, yep count me in. I have to say that Sleeping Beauty was always one of my favorite fairy tales. Add in a curse that prevents her from kiss anyone, without making them loss their free will, and I am sold. I am curious to see Stacey Jay's twist on the classic tale.

My Review of AlibiZ
AlibiZ is powerful sequels to the action packed RecruitZ, and trust me the action did not stop with RecruitZ. The discoveries at the end of RecruitZ had me dying to read AlibiZ and it did not disappoint. The is action around every corner, and new revelations made just about as often. There is so much packed into AlibiZ and yet I still feel like I need more. That is a beauty of Karice Bolton’s writing, there is always a need for more story. The story no matter how action packed or shoved full of details never feels overstuffed or complicated.

Rebekah has really grow since I first met her at the beginning of RecruitZ and she really takes on a leadership role in AlibiZ. After all the revelations of RecruitZ, her mission has shifted from just her own tragedy to saving the Afterworld from the corruption and evil that has seemed to grow in the wake of the outbreak. She obviously cannot do this alone, and Preston and her friends are right there besides her trying to take back their world.

I always like the friendship and potential relationship between Rebekah and Preston, and AlibiZ has me rooting for them even more. I like the little bright spots of their jokes and flirtations in the middle of some of the dark incidents going on around them. I think Preston is a good influence on Rebekah and keeps her from retreating to far into her own head.

While some of the questions I had from RecruitZ were answered, so many more were created, especially in the last few pages on AlibiZ. I guess I will just be impatiently waiting for Karice to work her magic and release UprisingZ . If the title is any indication, it is going to be even more action packed.

Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication Date: November 11, 2014

The past is Darker than they thought...
Between helping her mother with the Darker Agency and laying the smack down on monster baddies, Jessie Darker puts the “normal” in paranormal. But lately, things have gotten a little crazy...even for a smart-assed half-demon teenage girl.
For starters, Jessie’s been contracted into fifty-five years of annoying servitude. To a demon. Then there’s Lukas Scott, her sexy new boyfriend. Once the former incarnation of Wrath, he’s been going through some...uh, changes. Like residual anger. And trading chaste hangouts for lusty make-out sessions.
But it’s when Lukas and Jessie accidentally release a Very Nasty Demon that things get really bad, setting into motion a chain of death and mayhem that threatens both Earth and the Shadow Realm. Jessie has exactly four days to fix it...before all of Hell breaks loose.

About the Author
JUS ACCARDO  spent her childhood reading and learning to cook. Determined to follow in her
grandfather’s footsteps as a chef, she applied and was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America. But at the last minute, she realized her true path lay with fiction, not food.
Jus is the bestselling author of the popular Denazen series from Entangled publishing, as well as the Darker Agency series, and the New Adult series, The Eternal Balance. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald.

My Review of Darker Past
Darker Past is just the book I have been looking for, and even though I have not had the chance to read the first book, Darker Days, I enjoyed it immensely. With all the reading I have on my plate I do not always get to series and books when I want, and even without reading the first book, Darker Past stood on its own. I am defiantly going to have to clear sometime to read the first book though, and soon. I defiantly found a new favorite character in Jessie Darker.

I love Jessie’s attitude and snark, but also that she is fiercely protective of her family and her friends. I would not want to get in between her or her loved ones, that is for sure. Also the family dynamic that is developing now that Jessie’s demon father is back in the picture is adorable and made me want to read Darker Past even more. I also like her relationship with Lukas Scott, and I am curious to see how the they move forward with it in future books.

Even though I just started this series, I picked up on a lot of hints being dropped that there is a lot more to explore in future novels. I know that there are secrets in the Darker family past, secrets possibly about Jessie, and maybe even life altering secrets still to explore in the next and even future installments. I know I am defiantly dying to find out what everyone, especially what Jessie’s father is keeping from her and her mother.

Jus Accardo has a talent for hooking readers in and she has defiantly done that to me with the Darker Agency series. It is not just the pace and excitement of the story, but mainly the characters. The characters each have something I loved or hated and it drove me to find out more and keep turning the next page. I find that characters that I can get behind or capture my attention make a book far more enjoyable than just simply following a plot line. Jus Accardo has defiantly created a group of characters worth knowing in The Darker Agency series and if you have not grabbed it already, you should do so now.

 I am waiting on:

Suspicion

Haunted by her parents' deaths, Imogen moves to New York City with her new guardians. But when a letter arrives with the news of her cousin's untimely death, revealing that Imogen is now the only heir left to run the estate, she returns to England and warily accepts her role as duchess.
All is not as it seems at Rockford, and Imogen quickly learns that dark secrets lurk behind the mansion's aristocratic exterior, hinting that the spate of deaths in her family were no accident. And at the center of the mystery is Imogen herself--and Sebastian, the childhood friend she has secretly loved for years. Just what has Imogen walked into?
Combining a fresh twist on the classic REBECCA with a spine-tingling mystery and powerful romance, SUSPICION is an action-packed thrill ride.
Why am I waiting?
This ones sounds like a dark and twisted mystery, and that is exactly what I have been looking for lately. I like the idea of a secret hidden in a maze. While I have never read Rebecca, I think that this story is still going to be an exciting read.

At seventeen years old, Peyton is the oldest Diamond sister. She’s been hurt in the past, but because of it, has developed a thick skin. She will do anything for her sisters, going as far as protecting them from their mom’s outbursts and getting home first from school to make sure everything in the house (including their mom) is ready for them. She’s tough, doesn’t trust easily, and while she has many people she hangs out with, the only people who she feels truly know her are her sisters. She doesn’t like school (she gets restless sitting in classrooms!) and can’t wait until graduation so she’ll be done forever.

Peyton’s a natural night owl, and waking up in the morning is a constant struggle. (Her sisters usually resort to throwing things at her to wake her up, and often yell at her to hurry up showering so they can have time for their morning routines, too.) She needs at least three cups of coffee to get going. She loves rock music, and can usually be found with an earbud attached to her ear, even during her classes. She loves partying and dancing and getting lost in the music. She also enjoys an occasional chill night of movies and television shows, as long as it’s not a rom-com chick flick.

She wears mostly black clothing—why bother with colors when black always looks hot on her? Her nails are usually painted black as well. She’s not afraid to speak up for what she believes in and she will always stand up for her sisters. She tries to not let anyone in to avoid getting hurt—but really she just wants to find that one person who cares enough to break down her walls.
