He was a little older than he was letting on. By a few eons...
In this modern Arthurian, 17 year-old Boston high schooler Arriane, aka Ryan, DuLac just found out the guy she's been crushing on, hot biker Matt, is a little older than he was letting on. In fact, he is really Merlin—the Merlin, King Arthur's Merlin, the greatest wizard who ever lived. Frozen in a cave for over fifteen hundred years, he's woken for a purpose. But Ryan's not impressed. Tired of being a relationship loser, she'd rather kick his legendary behind.
Sure, the world has been crazy ever since the sword and the stone fell out of the sky like a meteor. But despite gruesome gargoyles, a deadly new world of magic, and the guy driving her crazy, Ryan knows that family is everything. Will Merlin sacrifice hers to save the world? Will she be able to stop him?

MY REVIEW

My Boyfriend Merlin by Priya Ardis is an action packed rollercoaster ride, while still managing quite a bit of humor and a dash of romance or two. Ryan is adjusting to her new life, with her new family, when she meets and starts dating Matt. The problem is that Matt is not exactly a normal teenager he is a wizard. Matt is not just any wizard, but the most famous wizard of all time, Merlin. When Excalibur turns up in London incased in stone, it looks like the myth of King Arthur is back for another round. Matt and Ryan do not want their attraction to get in the middle of the bigger picture. The bigger picture is training young potential candidates to complete the trail to try pulling the sword out of the stone. When it comes to training, Matt is not Ryan’s only complication, Matt’s arrogant but very attractive brother Vane is starting to get under her skin.

Ryan is a great main character, and I really loved her. She is very determined to protect everyone, especially those she cares about, because she has already lost so much. This lost has shaped Ryan into a very brave heroine. Ryan also tries to form her own opinions about Vane, even though Matt says he is not to be trusted. At first, she is wary, but Vane gives her every reason to be very cautious about his motives. Ryan eventually grows to trust him, even when Matt does not, and I think it changes Matt and Vane’s relationship for the better.

I really like old myths like Camelot and King Arthur. I also really like how Priya Ardis takes old mythology and spins it into a modern tale while staying true to the original story. I really like how old graying Merlin is actually a young man. Also, who does not like a story about magic? I think every child grows up believing in magic, and I love stories that remind me of that innocence and adventure. I really loved that I could be laughing one moment, and the next I was anxious to know what was going to happen.

My Boyfriend Merlin is a very fast and enjoyable read. I loved how fast paced the story was, because it felt like it had just started and then next thing I knew I was at the end. I will defiantly be picking up the second book in the series My Merlin Awakening!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Priya Ardis loves books of all kinds—but especially the gooey ones that make your nose leak and let your latte go cold. She started her first book at sixteen, writing in notebooks on long train rides during a hot summer vacation in India. Her favorite Arthurian piece is the poem The Lady of Shalott by Lord Alfred Tennyson. A hopeless romantic, she's a longtime member of the Romance Writer's of America. When not living in her characters' world, she might be found at the local coffee shop—her nose buried in a book.

Hello,

Just dropping by to say a big thank you for hosting My Merlin today. I'm so glad you enjoyed My Boyfriend Merlin! It was a gamble to do a "new Arthurian" coming of age story, but it was oh-so-fun!
