The Nightmare Affair (The Arkwell Academy, #1)
Title: The Nightmare Affair

Sixteen-year-old Dusty Everhart breaks into houses late at night, but not because she’s a criminal. No, she’s a Nightmare.
Literally.
Being the only Nightmare at Arkwell Academy, a boarding school for magickind, and living in the shadow of her mother’s infamy, is hard enough. But when Dusty sneaks into Eli Booker’s house, things get a whole lot more complicated. He’s hot, which means sitting on his chest and invading his dreams couldn’t get much more embarrassing. But it does. Eli is dreaming of a murder.
Then Eli’s dream comes true.
Now Dusty has to follow the clues—both within Eli’s dreams and out of them—to stop the killer before more people turn up dead. And before the killer learns what she’s up to and marks her as the next target.

MY REVIEW

The Nightmare Affair is a Tootsie Pop of paranormal/mythology with a mystery center. A delicious treat that is difficult to stop devouring once you have started. While the focus of the novel is the mystery, there is a bit of romance in the mix too. I am always up for a good mystery, but the best ones are where you cannot see the end coming at all. I will have to say that The Nightmare Affair is one of the best for twists and turns that keep you on your feet, and leaving your head spinning.

The world that Mindee Arnett has created there are many recognizable magickind from mythology and fairytales, and even some that I did not recognized. All of these magickind attend a special academy for their kind, The Arkwell Academy. The academy allows them to learn without the risk of exposure, until Dusty feeds on an ordinary (human) Eli Booker, and discovers that his dream was not a dream but a prediction. When the dream comes true, Dusty and Eli must team together to try to figure out whom is behind the events at Arkwell Academy, and what exactly are they after.

Dusty is a very snarky, sarcastic girl, who does not like being the new halfbreed kid at the Academy. Dusty is the type of character that I loved to read about, because with that type of attitude the funny comments just keep on coming. Eli is a very misunderstood supposed bad boy but grows into the character that you root for the Dusty to realize might be something more. I love how they start to get pass their differences to work together to solve the mystery.

In short, The Nightmare Affair is a fast-paced read that I think any mystery fan will thoroughly enjoy. I could not put it down once I started, and I had to finish it completely. I am hoping for a lot more of Dusty and Eli’s adventures in the future.
